As long as you have some frozen beef patties hiding in the freezer and a few hamburger buns, you have everything you need to make this recipe. If your hamburger patties are raw, use this air fryer hamburger recipe instead
Or, if you follow a keto or low-carb diet, you can skip the bun and just enjoy a beef burger with your favorite toppings! It's the perfect weeknight dinner solution the whole family is sure to love.
I made this recipe using the 5.8 QT Cosori Air Fryer. Its square basket makes it the perfect size for our family of 4.
How To Make Air Fryer Frozen Hamburgers
STEP ONE: Preheat your air fryer to 370 degrees.
STEP TWO: Place the frozen hamburger patties in the air fryer and cook for 10 to 20 minutes, flipping halfway.
STEP THREE: Once the patties have finished cooking, turn off the air fryer. If you're using cheese, place a piece of cheese on each hamburger while still inside the air fryer, then close the air fryer door for about one minute to melt the cheese.
STEP FOUR: Remove the hamburgers from the air fryer, place them on a bun with desired toppings, and enjoy!
How Long Does It Take To Cook Frozen Beef Patties In The Air Fryer?
The time it takes to cook frozen hamburgers in the air fryer is going to depend on how you like your burger cooked. The internal temperature you're trying to reach will be different if you want your burger rare, medium, or well done.
The chart below is a useful guideline — however, I ALWAYS recommend using an instant meat thermometer, like this Kizen Thermometer I use, to check the internal temperature of your burgers before eating them! The actual timing can vary based on your air fryer, the size of the patties, etc.
- Rare (125 degrees): approximately 13 minutes
- Medium Rare (135 degrees): approximately 14 to 16 minutes
- Medium (145 degrees): approximately 15 to 17 minutes
- Medium Well (155 degrees): approximately 16 to 18 minutes
- Well Done (160 degrees): approximately 17 to 20 minutes
How Long Can You Freeze Hamburger Patties?
Frozen ground beef will be safe for a long time as long as it's stored in an airtight container (and frozen). However, you're going to get the best quality if you eat it within 4 to 6 months.
Can't remember when you put the burgers in the freezer? Give them a quick check! If the hamburger patties are freezer burnt, smell weird, or have a funky texture, it's always better to be safe than sorry.
How To Make A Hamburger Into A Cheeseburger
If you're craving a cheeseburger, I recommend adding your cheese of choice AFTER the burgers have finished cooking. It will only take an extra minute or so for the cheese to melt.
With the burgers still inside the air fryer, place a slice of cheese on each patty. Turn off the air fryer, then close the door and let them sit for about 1-2 minutes.
The residual heat will be plenty to melt the cheese. If you try to do this with the air fryer still on, it will cause the cheese to fly off the patties, which we definitely don't want.
Why Does My Air Fryer Smoke?
If you've ever tried cooking Air Fryer Bacon or other fatty foods, you may have noticed smoke coming from your air fryer machine. This is caused by fat dripping into the basket, then being circulated into the heating fan.
The problem is that the fat will cause build-up on the fans, which can affect your air fryer over time. But deep cleanings to remove fat build-up are a huge pain. So, what can we do?
How To Stop Your Air Fryer From Smoking
The solution to this problem is easier than you may think… just stick a piece of bread between the drawer and the basket! The bread will absorb the fat, which prevents it from flying up into the fan. This also makes clean-up a little easier.

Tips For Making Frozen Hamburger Patties In The Air Fryer
- Freeze the burgers individually so they don't stick together when pulled from the freezer
- Cook the patties in one single layer
- Flip the beef burgers halfway through cooking to ensure both sides are cooked evenly
- Check the temperature with an Instant Read Thermometer to ensure the burgers are cooked thoroughly
- Keep an eye on the burger temperature throughout the cooking time. Every air fryer cooks a little differently, and each frozen hamburger can have a different thickness
